Slovenia Prove Too Strong For Lithuania

U18 Women

7. Rebeka Abramovic (Slovenia)
The Lithuanian defense did not always treat Rebeka Abramovic gently, but that didn't stop the Slovenia guard from finishing with 15 points and three steals

After a poor performance in their first game at the Global Vision U18 European Championship Women, Slovenia showed an impressive game to get over Lithuania, 62-48, and now they are hoping to earn a place in the Qualifying Round with a win on the last day of the Preliminary Round, when they face Poland.

Having scored only 42 points in the terrible loss from Spain, Slovenia started on full speed against Lithuania.

They took advantage of the Lithuanian static zone defense, moved the ball well and poured a lot of easy jump-shots that made the difference in the first half.

After two identical quarters on the scoreboard, 19-15, Slovenia was leading 38-30 at the halftime, with Rebeca Abramovic being all over the court.

She scored 15 points in only 19 minutes, added three steals and dominated Viktorija Juodeikyte in one on one duels.

The Slovenian team maintained the tempo in the second half, they ran the court better and their guards did a lot of damage on transition and on fast-breaks.

Their 13-point lead at the beginning of the fourth quarter, 51-38, proved to be enough for the win.

Abramovic finished the game with 22 points, five steals, three rebounds and two assists and Nina Gabrovsek, the other Slovenian point guard, contributed with 19 points, five rebounds and four assists.

"We spoke a lot after the lost game with Spain and we came on the court very determined today, and that was our key to success", said Gabrovsek after the game.

Ieva Preskienyte was the only Lithuanian player in double digits, with 10 points.

The Baltic team recorded 28 turnovers, many of them easily transformed in points by the Slovenians on fast-breaks.
