Goran Dragic - EuroBasket 2013 Profile

Team 2012-13: Phoenix Suns (USA-NBA)
Career: Ilirija Ljubljana (Slovenia-2, 2003-04); Geoplin Slovan Ljubljana (Slovenia-1A, 2000-02); Polaris World Murcia (Spain-ACB, 2006-07); Union Olimpija Ljubljana (Slovenia-1A, 2007-08); Phoenix Suns (USA-NBA, 2008-11); Houston Rockets (USA-NBA, 2011-12); Phoenix Suns (USA-NBA, 2012-13)

Goran Dragic is the stand-out player on the Slovenian team and one of two Slovenian players who played in the NBA during this past season. With 12.2 points-per-game in 2010 and 11.7 in 2011, Dragic led the Slovenian charge at both the 2010 FIBA World Championship and EuroBasket 2011. He has matured in recent years, competing at both international competitions and in the NBA, where he finally got out of the shadow of one of the best point guards in the world, his former mentor Steve Nash, as he became one of the key players of the Phoenix Suns. He has a solid all-round offensive game. He can create his own space in isolation and shoot the three-point shot or a mid-range jumper with ease, as well as penetrate to the hoop and finish comfortably. He certainly is not afraid to take contact and can adjust his body in mid-air with his superb leaping ability. His defensive skills are perhaps a bit underrated, as he always seems to think one-step ahead of the player he is guarding, and knows the right time to steal the ball off his opponent. With his team playing at home this time, Dragic could become one of the stars of this year's tournament.
