Ukraine defeated Lithuania, 59-41, on the first day of the Classification Round for 13th-16th place at the Global Vision U18 European Championship Women and made a strong statement for staying in the elite.

It was a close game until late in the third quarter, when Ukraine used a 12-0 run to put away the game for good. They were leading 44-29 entering the last period and added four more points on the scoreboard until the opponents were able to score again.

After an almost eight-minute drought, stretched between the third and the fourth quarter, the Lithuanians didn't have enough power to threat again the Ukrainian team, which easily cruised to victory.

The Ukrainians literally crashed the boards, finishing with a total of 62 rebounds, 22 of them on the offensive end and although they were not on such a great shooting day, the second-chance points made the difference.

Miriam Uro-Nille led all scorers with 12 points and added seven rebounds, while Oleksandra Chek finished with seven points and 12 rebounds for Ukraine.

Olga Krayevksa was all over the court and contributed with eight points, five rebounds and six assists.

Viktorija Juodeikyte had nine points, five rebounds and four assists for the losing side, as no player from her team scored more than ten points.

The two teams will play each other again on Friday.
