Turkey Punish Unmotivated Lithuania

Turkey dictated the pace from start to finish in a 80-65 win against Lithuania in the U18 European Championship Women 2010, to end their Qualifying Round campaign in style.

Lithuania, who came into the game knowing that they had already secured a Quarter-Final spot, suffered from poor defense and almost complete lack of concentration early on.

Turkey, led by Aysegül Günay and Özge Kavurmacioglu, took off early in the game and quickly built a double digit lead in the first quarter before reaching their biggest lead of the game (35-14) after Günay converted a steal to a three-poiner.

Lithuania defense didn't work in the second half too, especially against Nihan Demirkol who converted a few of her drives into three-point plays. Coach Aurimas Jasilionis shuffled the cards by withdrawing Santa Okockyte and that move improved Lithuania's showing on both ends as Gabija Morkunaite made a triple to reduce deficit to eight points (56-64).

But that was as close as they'd get as Turkey upped the tempo again and used a 10-3 run to move clear 74-59 and never looked back until the final whistle.

Özge Kavurmacioglu scored 22 points and added nine rebounds to lead Turkey.
