Lithuania In Command Against Baltic Neighbours



Lithuanian recorded an easy win against "braliukai" Latvians by 79-51 in the second day of U18 European Championship Women 2010 tournament.

Santa Okockyte fuelled the Lithuanian offense in the third quarter when her team gained a commanding lead and took over control of the game. She had 20 points and Laura Svaryte added 15 points and 11 rebounds.

Kristiane Stauere led Latvia on 10 points.

Lithuania went in front 6-0, but Latvia hit back with an 8-1 run and went ahead 8-7 with 4:22 on the clock in the first quarter. Okocyte drove inside for a basket plus bonus shot and assisted Grigalauskyte for a tying jumper at 18-18 with 13 seconds to go in the first quarter.

Okockyte penetrated for a bucket and added a pair of free throws, but fell into foul trouble and was benched late in the second quarter.

Coach Aurimas Jasilionis kept Okockyte who had four fouls on the floor for most of the third quarter when Lithuania built a significant lead 44-59.

She remained a key in Lithuanian offense during the final quarter when she penetrated for a basket plus foul to extend the gap to 20 points (64-44). Kristina Druskyte buried two consecutive threepointers to make sure of an easy win for Lithuania.
