Lithuania European Champion 2003

Lithuania clinched their third European Championship title and first since the break-up of the Soviet Union with a 93-84 victory over Spain on Sunday night.

The Baltic giants, who won gold medals in 1937 and 1939, produced another outstanding team performance in Sweden to deny Spain their first ever gold medal in the championships.

Spain Meet Lithuania In European Final

Italy brought Pau Gasol back down to earth - but they couldn’t do the same to the Spanish team in their semi-final showdown at the European Championships.

Playing after Lithuania’s dramatic come-from-behind 74-70 win over France, Italy were threatening to pull off a third straight upset of their own but ultimately lost 81-79 as Massimo Bulleri missed a three-point shot at the end.
