|Jan Wimberg's three pointer gave Germany the win over Lithuania in Panevezys|
Jan Wimberg has sunk a three with seven seconds remaining to lead Germany past Lithuania 66-65 at the Dadu U16 European Championship Men.
Trailing for almost the entire game, Wimberg was the go-to man for Germany in the dying stages and the forward duly provided, bringing up his 18th point of the night with the winning shot.
A point was the biggest lead that the Germans held all night.
With Tautvydas Paliukenas providing an exhibition in three-point shooting at the other end of the court to already have Lithuania up by 13 points at the end of the opening quarter, it was looking like a long night ahead for the Germans.
But Wimberg was clinical in leading the comeback, scoring six points in the second quarter to bring the deficit back to five at half-time.
Leading throughout most of the final frame, it appeared that Lithuania would do enough to hang on. However, an inability to score any points in the face of determined German defence in the final two-and-a-half minutes ultimately proved to be the hosts' undoing.
Paliukenas ended as the game's leading scorer with 24 points on six-for-eight three-point shooting, whilst Domantas Sabonis picked up 16 boards and nine points.
