Russia and Montenegro will sign off their participation at the U20 European Championship Men 2010 by trying to claim fifth place on the final day of action after they claimed wins against Serbia and Ukraine.
A stunning 30 points from Vladimir Mihailovic and a blistering 20-6 opening quarter helped Montenegro put a tired looking Ukraine to the sword by 84-61.
The final curtain fell on the action in Crikvenica at the U20 European Championship Men 2010 with a 100-65 mauling of Ukraine by Lithuania but it wasn't enough to hand them a place in the quarter-finals as they paid the penalty for their somewhat surprise loss to Latvia.
Having sat and watched their chances of a slot in the last eight disappear after Greece beat Serbia in the preceding game, Lithuania took their frustration out on Ukraine who had one eye on Zadar having already sealed second spot in Group E.
A sparkling 19 points and 11 rebounds by center Lauris Blaus powered Latvia to a 75-72 win over neighbours Lithuania and in the process helped blow Group E of the Qualifying Round of U20 European Championship for men wide open.
The performance of Latvia was something of a surprise since their under-par display in their previous game with Serbia had left their hopes of a quarter-final place hanging by a thread but they can now head into the final day in Crikvenica with real purpose.
Defending champions Greece survived a late scare from Lithuania in an intense but high quality battle in Crikvenica to seal a hard fought 75-70 success at the U20 European Championship Men 2010.
Coach Kostas Missas admitted after the game it had been the hardest game yet for the tournament favourites who looked to have been safe and out of sight at one point but almost blew a double digit lead in the closing stages.
