Lithuania put a scare into hosts Serbia but came up short at the end as they fell to a 78-72 defeat in the qualifying round at the U20 European Championship Women.

Lithuania rallied from 12 points down in the final quarter to draw level at 63-63 with 4:27 to go as Laura Svaryte sank a jump-shot, but then watched Serbia respond by reeling off eight straight.

Snezana Colic started the run with a pair of free throws and Maja Vucorovic then split a pair of her own before a three from Colic made it 69-63.

It was Colic again who sank a mid-range jumper to make it 71-63.
Back-to-back baskets from Santa Okockyte cut the gap to six, 71-67, but Serbia kept them at bay with free throws from Tijana Ajdukovic down the stretch.

Ajdukovic led Serbia with 19 points while Colic had 18 and Vucurovic added 16.

Okockyte led Lithuania with 18 points while Inesa Visgaudite and Gintare Mazionyte had 10 each.
