Monika Grigalauskyte was the star of the show as Lithuania downed Turkey 64-57 to leave both teams at 1-1 in U20 European Championship Women Group B. Grigalauskyte scored 17 points and grabbed 16 rebounds as Lithuania bounced back from their opening loss to defending champions Russia. Turkey had looked strong early on, going 12-5 up on a lay-up from Ayse Cora, but Lithuania responded with a 9-0 run to go in front. A three-pointer and jump-shot in quick succession from Santa Okockyte gave Lithuania a 34-28 half-time advantage and they kept Turkey at arm's length throughout the third quarter, with Inesa Visgaudite's late jump-shot putting them 52-42 ahead. Visgaudite began the final stanza with a three-pointer and although Turkey finished strong, they had left themselves too much to do. Visgaudite finished with 16 points while Okockyte had 15. Gintare Mazionyte had six points and 11 rebounds as she helped Lithuania pile up a 60-38 advantage on the boards. Ozge Yavas led Turkey with 16 points while Cora had 13. |
