Ukraine edged out Lithuania in the final seconds to book a quarter-final berth at the U20 European Championship Women.

In a game for survival in Group E, the two teams were locked together throughout a tense fourth quarter.

Lithuania had edged ahead, 66-64, on a pair of free throws from Gintare Mazionyte with 2:21 to go, but Olga Maznichenko responded with five straight points that gave Ukraine a three-point edge.

Laura Svaryte's lay-up closed the gap to one, but Lithuania could not get the ball back in the final seconds.

First, Olesia Malashenko got the offensive rebound from Alina Iagupova's miss, and then it was Maznichenko who snatched the ball away with nine seconds left after a miss from Krystyna Matsko.

Lithuania were forced to foul, and Malashenko coolly slotted a pair of free throws for Ukraine.

Lithuania still had a chance to tie it when 71-68 down with for seconds left, but Mazionyte's inbound pass was cut out by Olena Chystyakova to deny them.

Iagupova had 18 points for Ukraine while Maznichenko collected 16 and 11 rebounds. Malashenko scored 13 and pulled down 13 boards.

Svaryte had 17 points and eight rebounds for Lithuania, while Santa Okockyte scored 15, Mazionyte 13 and Inesa Visgaudite 12.
