Marina Solopova and Giedre Paugaite each collected double-doubles in leading Lithuania to a 63-57 victory over Serbia in the qualifying round of the U20 European Championship for Women.
Solopova had 17 points, 12 rebounds, three assists and five steals while Paugaite added 14 points, 17 rebounds, four steals and four blocks for Lithuania, who improved to 2-1 in Group F. Egle Siksniute added 18 points and seven rebounds in the win.
Nevena Jovanovic scored 15 points to lead Serbia, who dropped to 1-2 in the group. Jovana Popovic scored 10 points and Tijana Ajdukovic added 10 points, two steals and three blocks in the loss.
Lithuania had a slight advantage in the first quarter, twice opening six-point leads before holding a 14-12 advantage after one period.
The game was back-and-forth throughout the second frame with five lead changes and five ties. And Serbia led 35-33 at the break.
Lithuania broke the game wide open in the third period with the first eight points en route to a 17-4 run to build a 50-39 advantage. And the gap was still 54-45 after three quarters.
The Baltic side increased the advantage to 13 points midway through the fourth quarter. Serbia trimmed the deficit to seven points but Lithuania scored the next four points to ice the game.
