Spain Make It Six In A Row

Five players scored in double figures as Spain remained undefeated at the U18 European Championship Men and took first place in the Qualifying Round Group F with an 84-75 victory over Lithuania.

Daniel Diez had 19 points and 17 rebounds and Jaime Fernandez scored 19 points while Jorge Sanz, Alejandro Suarez and Alejandro Abrines Redondo all tallied 10 points for Spain, who improved to 5-0 in the group.

Simonas Kymantas scored 23 points to lead Lithuania, who dropped to 3-2 in the group. Tauras Jogela scored 12 points and Tomas Dimsa had 10 points.

Spain were leading 12-9 when they went on a 17-3 run in the first quarter to open a 29-12 lead. Lithuania pulled back within 32-22 after the first period.

The Lithuanians watched Spain increase the lead back to 15 points but trimmed it down to seven points before going into locker room down 50-40.

Spain came out strong in the second half, starting with a 12-4 run to push the advantage to 62-44. But Lithuania finished the third quarter with a 17-5 run including Tomas Dimsa hit a jumper off the glass to make it 67-60 after three periods.

Lithuania remained close the entire fourth quarter with Kymantas's dunk pulling them to within 76-74.

Redondo blocked Jogela's shot and then grabbed an offensive rebound after a missed free throw and Diez's basket made it 81-74 with two minutes left. And Lithuania could not come up with an answer down the stretch.
