Sweden Back On Track After Win Over Latvia

Sweden bounced back from Saturday's defeat to Serbia by crushing Latvia 72-53 in Group E of the Qualifying Round.

Latvia trailed 32-28 at half-time but were blown out in the third quarter as the tournament hosts went on a 22-6 run en route to victory.

Sweden star Farhiya Abdi poured in 10 points in that quarter and finished with a game-high 25 points on 11 of 16 (68.8%) shooting inside the arc.

Abdi also hauled in 15 rebounds.

She was 11 of 16 (68.8%) from inside the arc but failed to convert any of her six attempts from long range.

"It was very important for us to win this game," said Abdi."Latvia had the same position as us in the group and we knew we had to step it up and play as well as we could.

"We knew they were going for a win too so we had to play hard.

"We came out very determined after the break and we deserved the victory."

The Swedes were superior shooting the ball from inside the three-point line, making 21 of 40 (52.5%) compared to Latvia's 16 of 41 (39%).

Sabine Niedola led Latvia with 19 points and she also corralled in 13 rebounds.
