Latvia stepped up their preparations for the EuroBasket in Poland by sweeping Sweden in two friendlies.

Kestutis Kemzura, the new national team boss from Lithuania, made his debut at the helm of the Latvians and watched as they thumped the Scandinavians in the first game at the Arena Riga, 89-67.

Sandis Valters poured in 16 points to lead the Latvian scoring, while the twin towers of Kaspars Kambala and Andris Biedrins contributed 11 apiece.

In the second meeting that was played without spectators, Latvia claimed a 92-69 victory.

In a mouthwatering starting line-up for Latvia were giants Biedrins and Kambala.

The hosts lowered the boom in the third quarter when they outscored their opponents 23-7.

Kambala led the way with 14 points in the victory.

A bigger test awaits Latvia this week when they go up against Baltic neighbors Lithuania.

In Poland next month, the Latvians will play in Group B against Russia, Germany and the team that wins the Additional Qualifying Round.

Sweden are getting ready for their Division B campaign.
