Butautas Eager To Face Latvia In Baltic Friendly

09 August 2009

Ramunas Butautas is taking his Lithuania team to Latvia for a EuroBasket preparation game against their Baltic neighbors.

The Lithuanians, bronze-medalists two years ago in Spain and semi-finalists at the 2008 Olympics, are hoping to return to the podium in Poland where this year's European Championship is being played.

A game against the Latvians is always a good test, national team coach Butautas says.

"For several years I worked in Latvia and know their basketball players well," Butautas said.

"I know their strengths and weaknesses. Latvian basketball is at a high level.

Butautas expects the Latvians, who have Golden State Warriors center Andris Biedrins in their ranks, to reach the Quarter-Finals."

The Latvian team should know exactly what to expect when they go up against the Lithuanians.

Kestutis Kemzura, the former Lithuania national team assistant, was appointed national team coach at the end of 2008.
