The son of former USSR star Valdis Valters and younger brother of Sandis... Not yet 24, Valters already has plenty of international experience. Quickly regarded as one of the biggest prospect in the country he was a key member (14.9 pts) of the junior team that reached the semi-finals of Euro 1998 and therefore qualified for the World championship in Portugal... Since then, Valters had some trouble fulfilling his potential. This very quick guard deadly at penetrating to the basket but also comfortable behind the three-point line, did most of his damage on the local Latvian scene after a tough experience in Greece... This year, he found a home in Oldenburg and averaged 10.7 points in the Bundesliga... Valters played for the New Jersey Nets summer league team in Orlando in 2004.
