Bogris, Papanikolaou Lead Greece Past Latvia

Georgios Bogris and Kostas Papanikolaou both scored 16 points as hosts Greece beat Latvia 77-71 to clinch third place in the qualifying round Group E of the U20 European Championship and book a quarter-final date against Croatia.

The hosts led from start to finish and improved their record to 4-1 thanks also to 13 points from Nikos Pappas and 10 points by Charalampoulos Giannopoulos.

Latvian Trio Stop Italy

Dairis Bertans scored 19 points and Janis Strelnieks and Lauris Blaus both collected double-doubles to give Latvia a crucial 81-77 victory over Italy in the qualifying round Group F of the U20 European Championship.

Strelnieks had 14 points and 10 rebounds and Blaus collected 10 points and 12 rebounds for Latvia, who improved to 1-3 in the group. Kristers Zeidaks also scored 14 points in the victory.

Latvia Just Miss Upset Of France

Thomas Heurtel made the game-winning layup with 2.1 seconds left and Antoine Diot poured in 21 points to lead France to an 84-82 victory over Latvia to remain undefeated at the U20 European Championship.

Mikus Sokolovs missed a potential winning three-pointer from nearly 30 feet at the buzzer as Latvia fell to 0-3 in the qualifying round Group E. Janis Strelnieks and Dairis Bertans each scored 20 points and Lauris Blaus had 13 points and nine rebounds in a losing effort.

Group A: Spain Hold Off Latvia, Russia Win

Pere Tomas poured in 25 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead Spain to a 73-66 victory over Latvia to finish the preliminary round Group A of the U20 European Championship undefeated at 3-0.

Sergio De La Fuente added 17 points and Mamadou Samb Mbaye chipped in 12 points and nine rebounds in just 15 minutes for Gustavo Arazana's team.
