The Golden State Warriors have signed forward Andris Biedrins - the first Latvian to be selected in the first round of the NBA draft.
Under the League's rookie salary scale, Biedrins receives a three-year deal worth a minimum of 4.64 million US dollars with a club option for the 2007-08 season.
The 18-year-old will join last year's first-round pick Mickael Pietrus as part of the Warriors' summer league team at the Los Angeles Summer Pro League in Long Beach beginning July 12.
Biedrins played two seasons in the Latvian League with Skonto Riga and averaged 18.0 points and 14.4 rebounds while shooting nearly 62% from the floor.
In last year's FIBA Europe League he ranked 5th in scoring with 18.6 ppg and 3rd in rebounding (8.2 rpg).
American scouts got a glimpse of Biedrins last July when he played a few games with the DC Assault AAU team and dominated the action.
