Reigning champions Spain remained undefeated as they easily handled Turkey 100-65 to top Group C of the Termosteps U16 European Championship Women.
Laura Arroyo Zubeldia collected 24 points, eight rebounds, three assists, two steals and a blocked shot and Leonor Rodriguez had 18 points, five rebounds, six assists and four steals.
All told, 11 Spaniards scored in the game.
"This is a big step for the team for the rest of the games. But this is just the beginning of the competition. There will be more difficult opponents to come," said Spain guard Cristina Pedrals Barrios, who had nine points and four assists.
Spain jumped ahead 27-16 after the first quarter and led 57-27 at the break, and Turkey never challenged in the second half.
Turkey dropped to 0-2 despite 22 points and four steals from Gamze Takmaz. And the Turks need to beat Latvia on Sunday to remain alive for the Qualifying Round.
The hosts Latvia collected their first victory of the tournament with an 88-74 win over Belgium as Sabine Niedola was unstoppable with 31 points, 20 rebounds, five assists and two blocked shots.
Ilze Gotfrida added 13 points and Kristine Vitola 12 points for the winners, who showed they belong in the Division A.
The Division B runners-up from last summer led by 11 points in the first quarter and the Belgians pulled to within six points midway through the second period. But the advantage was a high as 18 points in the second period.
And Daiga Jansone's team proved resilient enough by not allowing Belgium get closer than 14 points the rest of the way.
Latvia will advance to the Qualifying Round with a victory over Turkey while Belgium, who were led by Shamira Linskens's 16 points and seven rebounds, dropped to 1-1 ahead of their match against Spain.
