Veronika Dorosheva scored 23 points and Alexandra Tarasova was a force inside as Russia remained alive in the race for the semi-finals of the Termosteps U16 European Championship Women with an 89-74 victory over hosts Latvia.
Tarasova collected 17 points, 19 rebounds, two steals and eight blocked shots while Yana Matveeva had 18 points and nine rebounds for Russia, who improved to 2-1 behind undefeated France and Spain.

Latvia twice closed the gap to one point - the second time at 50-49 midway through third period. But Russia were ahead by six points going into the fourth, and Matveeva's three-pointer made it 72-56 with seven minutes play.
Latvia's deficit was still 80-62 with four minutes to go but the hosts eventually cut it to 10 points late in the contest.
Sabine Niedola did all she could for Latvia, collecting 15 points, 14 rebounds, two assists, three steals and one block. Anete Kirsteine scored 14 points, Ilze Gotfrida had 12 points and Linda Pagrode chipped in 11 points.
