Portugal started strong in Vagos and beat Estonia for their second triumph in three games in EuroBasket Women Division B.
With the country already in a festive spirit following the men's qualification for EuroBasket 2007 in Spain, the women beat the Estonians 62-50 in Group B.
Estonia prevailed 66-42 at Luxembourg to stay firmly in the hunt for promotion to EuroBasket Women Division A.
In the Group B battle, the Baltic side only led 19-16 when Siiri Liivandi keyed a 12-3 second-quarter run with lay-up.
The short-term aim for Great Britain's women is to win promotion to Division A of EuroBasket Women while in the long-term, they want to prove themselves worthy of taking up the place reserved for hosts at the 2012 Olympics in London.
With both endeavours in mind, Mark Clark's team got off to a flying start on Saturday with a 72-66 Division B victory at Estonia.
