| 04.02.2011 EUROLEAGUE WOMEN Megan Mahoney scored the winning three-pointer with two minutes and twenty seconds left as Cras Basket Taranto stayed alive in their EuroLeague Women Eighth-Final with ZVVZ USK Prague in a bizarre finish.
A tense battle had the two teams exchanging the lead as the minutes ticked down in the fourth quarter.
Katerina Elhotova's three-pointer had Prague up 71-68, but Taranto hit back with a jump-shot from Valentina Siccardi and another from Sophia Young putting them up 72-71.
DeLisha Milton-Jones responded to make it 73-72, but Mahoney then drained a three to have Taranto up by two, 75-73.
And that, despite their being 140 seconds left, is how it stayed as both teams lost their shooting touch entirely.
Milton-Jones missed a jump-shot and then watched Anna Vajda fail with the put-back.
Taranto should have put the game to bed as they scored a series of offensive rebounds, but they made none of the shots in between with Siccardi, Kathy Wambe, Elodie Godin and Mahoney all off-target.
Elhotova had the final chance of the game, and could have tied it, but she missed her jump-shot on the buzzer.
Young led all scorers with 24 points for Taranto, while Mahoney and Godin had 13 each.
Lindsay Whalen led Prague with 20 points, while Milton-Jones had 19 and 13 rebounds. |
