Maltsi Magic Dooms Ros In Prague

22 October 2008

Greek international Evanthia Maltsi didn't get too many opportunities at Ros Casares last season to shine and decided to sign for ZVVZ USK Prague in the summer.

That's looking like one of the best deals of the season so far after Maltsi killed her old team with 29 points on Wednesday in ZVVZ's 87-72 triumph in Prague.

Trailing 47-42 to one of the pre-season favorites to win the EuroLeague Women, USK Prague turned on the style and outscored Ros 18-4 over the last 5:27 of the third quarter to take a 60-51 advantage.

Lubor Blazek's team then reeled off the first 10 points of the fourth quarter - five by Maltsi - for a commanding 70-51 lead.

They then rolled to victory.

Maltsi wasn't the only newcomer to come up big for Prague.

Big Croatian center Sonja Kireta had 15 rebounds to go with her 13 points.

Michaela Feranciková scored 22 and USA international Lindsay Whalen had nine points, seven assists and 14 boards.

Prague out-rebounded Ros Casares 44-29.

The result has left both sides with 1-1 records early in their European campaigns.
