EuroLeague Women

Ciao from Pecs

14. Alexandria Quigley (Pécs 2010)
Alexandria Quigley is leading Pécs 2010 in scoring and has them still in the hunt for a Play-Off spot in EuroLeague Women

It certainly has been a while since I've chatted with you guys and since then, you could say that quite a bit has happened.

Let's start with the most recent excitement, namely our win against Good Angels Kosice last Thursday! It was a close game for the entire 40 minutes and we finally pulled away right at the end. This game really just came down to fighting for our survival as we were fighting to stay alive in EuroLeague Women.

I think I explained in my last Postcard From Pecs that we needed to win our last two games in order to advance to the final 16. Consequently I think everyone had that in the back of their minds during the entire game.

As we managed to get the victory, it's a case of, one down and one to go. Next up for us is Cras Basket Taranto at home. I was looking forward to seeing my friend Brooke Smith but unfortunately she has moved to Tarbes (Go Brooke!)!

This slight change over Christmas resulted in Taranto adding Sophia Young to their roster. Obviously, we know she is a very quick, athletic post player who adds a new dimension to their team.

Now our game plan might have to be to change a bit in terms of defence. Once again, I really think this game is going to come down to fighting, for it and finding out who wants it more. Of course we have to make shots and play good defence, but at the end of the day, we have fight even harder to win this game.

Meanwhile off the court and before we played Good Angels Kosice, I was lucky enough to have my brother Jake fly back to Pecs with me from home. It's always hard leaving family and friends after Christmas, so Jake coming back with me made it so much easier this time.

I feel like I was hosting a "Pecs Appreciation Week" while he was here ha, ha! We went out every day and saw something new in the city and actually, we both learned a lot. We were also lucky enough to have some unexpectedly great January weather while he was here! It was so nice to just walk outside wearing only a sweatshirt and get to see all the sites!

I think he enjoyed walking in the downtown square the most. He was so amazed with the beautiful buildings and churches. We also probably hit just about every restaurant in Pecs, so it's safe to say I'll be eating in my apartment for a while.

My brother plays tennis in College so he also made some time to give my coach, Zeljko a few lessons at a nearby club. I just planned to watch them play, but then Zeljko challenged me to a match!! I think we know how this story ends!

It was fun though to show Jake my life here in Pecs and to let him experience the things I do on a daily basis. So if anyone out there is thinking of visiting Pecs, I'm now an experienced tour guide.

Well, our minds are now focused on the game this Wednesday against Cras Basket Taranto. We know our fans will be as amazing as usual so it will be a great atmosphere. I'm excited to get into the gym and start preparing for the game.

Wish us luck and remember - if you're in the area of Pecs at 6pm local time on Wednesday night you know where to go!
