Wisla Can-Pack held off MiZo Pecs 2010 in a furious finish to claim a 66-65 win in their Euroleague Women Group A match-up on Thursday night.
Wisla led almost the entire game but could never pull away from MiZo and the hosts made them sweat going into the final stretch, cutting the gap to one, 59-58, on Dalma Ivanyi's three-pointer with 4:50 to go.
Ivanyi then made a lay-up to cancel out Marta Fernandez's jump-shot to leave Wisla up 61-60.
Andrea Sornogyi might have put them ahead after Slobodanka Maksimovic turned the ball over but her lay-up missed and Chamique Holdsclaw instead gave Wisla breathing room, putting them up 63-60 with three minutes to go.
Kelly Anne Mazzante missed a three-ball for MiZo but they got the ball back and Ivanyi made a lay-up to make it 63-62.
The point guard then made a steal but could not put her team ahead as she came up empty with a three-point attempt.
But Wisla initially failed to punish the miss as Holdsclaw missed back-to-back shots.
Fernandez sank a pair of free throws to put Wisla up by three, 65-62, with 30 seconds to go but Sornogyi responded with a jump-shot 13 seconds from time.
Ivanyi quickly made the foul to send Jelena Skerovic to the line and she split the pair to leave the score at 66-64.
Ivanyi drew the foul but missed the second of her free throws and a last ditch jump-shot as the hosts came up short.
Holdsclaw led Wisla with 22 points and 11 rebounds while Fernandez came up with 19 points and Ewelina Kobryn had 10.
Sorgonyi finished with 17 points for Mizo while Ivanyi had 15 and Graziane de Jesus Coelho 13.
