MiZo Win Thriller Over USO Mondeville

16 November 2005

If the season were over tonight, MiZo Pecs could lay claim to being the top team of the EuroLeague Women.

So far this season, the team from Hungary has upset the defending champions BC Volgaburmash, thrashed Ros Casares and come from behind in the fourth quarter.

The Hungarian heavyweights fought back over the final 10 minutes to stun USO Mondeville, 65-61.

The hosts led 53-48 with just one quarter to play, and 57-54 with 5:28 remaining, but it was not enough to hold back MiZo who took the lead for good at 58-57 on Pollyanna Johns' jump shot before Amra Dapo and Johns again scored for a 62-57 advantage that would prove to be decisive.

USO did have a chance to tie or go in front in the final minute, when Pecs' Timea Ivkovicné Béres had the ball stolen from Grace Daley of Mondeville.

Daley fired up a jump shot that was off target and MiZo went to the other end of the court and put the game away at the free throw line.

Hervé Coudray, the coach of USO Mondeville, said: "We could have won this game but were missing a few things. Certain players were tired and we missed some easy baskets at the end of the game...my players, they had one of their best games off the season."
