ESB Lille Metropole fought to the end of their Group A campaign and survived to reach the eighth-finals of the EuroLeague Women.

Needing to upset Fenerbahce in France and for Phard Napoli to also beat TTT Riga in Italy, Lille had their prayers answered.

They defeated Fener 60-59 on Kathy Wambe's lay-up in the final seconds while TTT Riga lost in Naples, 68-65.

The coach of Lille, was relieved and very excited after the game.

"It was satisfaction mixed with all kind of emotions tonight," he said.

"Congratulations to all the players because it was an exciting EuroLeague game. It is good for the town and the fans. I love this kind of emotion."

Geraldine Robert led a balanced Lille scoring attack with 16 points while Jucimara Evangelista Dantas scored 12 points and grabbed six rebounds.

No more than four points separated the two sides in the fourth quarter, and the game was knotted at 57-57 with 1:59 remaining after Robert made the first of two free throws.

She also sank the second for a one-point Lille advantage, only for Cappie Pondexter to reply for Fenerbahce with a lay-up with one minute remaining.

After both sides missed jump shots, a Fenerbahce turnover gave Lille the final possession and they made the most of it.

Belgium international Wambe received a pass from Dantas and drove into the lane to score the go-ahead lay-up as time expired.

Wambe finished with eight points and six assists.

Lille won the game, despite turning the ball over 20 times compared to just 10 for Fener.
