Phard Napoli became the first winner of a FIBA Europe club competition in 2005 on Sunday night in Italy. Napoli defeated Fenerbahce 45-53 to win the FIBA Europe Cup Women in a game characterised by its defensive intensity.
While nerves also contributed to a poor shooting display from both sides, it was Napoli's ability to disrupt Fenerbahce's offense in the final quarter that saw them take a deserved victory.
Fenerbahce banished the last year’s final disappointment on Saturday evening in Napoli on Friday evening. The Turkish side hosted the 2004 FIBA Europe Cup Women Final Four, but fell at the semi-final stage of the competition.
Here in Napoli on Saturday evening, Fenerbahce edged ZKK Croatia Zagreb 61-62 in a tight fought contest to advance to Sunday’s final.
FIBA Europe is pleased to announce that the 2005 Final Four of the FIBA Europe Cup Women will be hosted by Phard Napoli Basket and will take place the 2nd and 3rd April, 2005 in Naples, Italy.
Following the completion of the FIBA Europe Cup Women Conference Final Fours, the eight remaining teams have been drawn into pairings for the Pan-European play-offs.
The draw was conducted on Friday 11th January in the offices of FIBA Europe under the supervision of Executive Director Nar Zanolin, Sports Director Kosta Iliev, Office Manager Regina Hlavacek and Legal Advisor Frank Oschütz.
