|American guard Eshaya Murphy is like a kid at christmas with a basketball in her hands, and she enjoys her time in Valencia |
If there is one thing that is striking about the current Ros Casares team, it's the presence of Eshaya Murphy and her joy for the sport.
The 26-year-old guard has an unquenchable thirst for the game.
"I love basketball," she said to Basketball World News.
"I'm a late bloomer. I started at 12. I was more of a karate, track girl - love skateboards and all that stuff.
"But now, I love the game, I love the work. I could go and play in Africa, against guys, Puerto Rico.
"I just want to play. I don't care where I play, or for who - I just want to play."
By electing to play at Ros Casares, Murphy has gone to a club where competition for minutes is fierce.
"I love the game and I hope to get the same opportunities to play that I've had in the past to help this team and I believe I can.
"But I have to earn my stripes.
Murphy has so far earned plenty of stripes.
Most recently, she led the team with 18 points in the win over Gran Canaria.
"They have so many legendary players here and Ros has a great reputation," she said.
"It's an honor for any player to play for a team like Ros."
PERFUMERIAS ON A ROLL
Perfumerias Avenida are moving from strength to strength this season.
If they're not winning games in the EuroLeague Women, which they have done five times in as many tries, the Salamanca club is doing so in the Liga Femenina.
And they're not just beating sides that are heavily overmatched.
On Saturday, the defending European and Spanish champions thumped in-form Rivas Ecopolis on their own floor, 78-63.
The visitors had a 41-20 lead by half-time.
Making that setback a particularly difficult pill to swallow for Rivas was that their star from last season, Dewanna Bonner, is now a leading light for Perfumerias.
She had 22 points in that victory for Lucas Mondelo's team.
Miguel Mendez, the Rivas coach, said: "In this game have been two distinct halves, a first in which we have not played as we know how, and another in which we have been stronger and ran.
"We paid for that bad first half ..."
Ros Casares were the other EuroLeague Women team in action in Spain and they brushed aside Eurocup Women outfit Gran Canaria, 84-63.
