Wisla Get Douglas; Lasi’s Observations

20. Katie Douglas (Nadezhda)
Wisla will be the fifth EuroLeague Women club  in the career of sharp-shooter Katie Douglas

The rebuilding of Wisla Can-Pack Krakow has continued at pace with high-scoring EuroLeague Women veteran Katie Douglas agreeing to terms with the Polish champions.

Douglas, 33, spent this season with Nadezhda Orenburg in Russia, a team that came up just short of the Final Eight in Istanbul.

She averaged 15.2 points in 32.2 minutes per contest in Europe.

Douglas started her European career in Greece with modest club Ano Liosia almost ten years ago.

She later moved on to the big stage and the EuroLeague Women.

In Europe's top competition, Douglas has played for TEO Vilnius (from 2005-2007, before the club moved to Kaunas and was renamed VICI Aistes), Ros Casares (2008), CSKA Moscow (2009), Galatasaray (2010) and Ros Casares again (2011) before leaving for Russia in the 2011-12.

Wisla have also confirmed that Paulina Pawlak has finalized terms on a contract that will keep her with the team for next season.

Beretta-Famila Schio managed to add some silverware to their trophy cabinet this season by winning the Italian Supper Coppa.

The team had hoped for more, but lost at home in the Coppa Italia to Cras Basket Taranto and also fell in the play-off championship to Taranto, 3-0.

In the EuroLeague Women, the team did reach the Final Eight that was staged in Istanbul at the end of March and beginning of April.

"The experience here at Schio has been beautiful," coach Maurizio Lasi said.

The team simply ran out of steam at the end of the campaign.

"We took a full step in our first (play-off final) game at home against Taranto then in our two games in Taranto, even though we played better, we lacked energy.

"But the fact remains, we were able to reach four finals - the victory in the Super Coppa, the historic appearance in the Final Eight and the appearances in the finals of the Coppa Italia and Scudetto (league)."
