Ros Get Away From Taranto

13 January 2010
Ros Casares avenged their first setback in this year's EuroLeague Women by thrashing Cras Basket Taranto 87-59 on Wednesday night in Valencia.

Isma Canto's team, beaten 78-69 by Cras in Italy back on November 8, prevailed to clinch at least a second-place finish in Group A.

It appeared early on that the Spaniards would blow away Cras.

They opened up a 26-11 lead with 7:26 to go in the first half but had the initiative stolen away by the Italians.

Cras went on a 16-1 run over the next three and a half minutes to knot the contest at 27-27.

Laia Palau hit a jump shot for Ros, only for Elodie Godin to tie the game again at 29-29.

Belinda Snell followed with a three-pointer for Ros and this time, they stayed in front for good.

After a Kathy Wambe lay-up for the visitors, Ros got a free-throw by Amaya Valdemoro, two straight jumpers from Laia Palau and two free-throws by Ana Montanana for a 39-31 lead.

Ros Casares then lowered the boom in the third quarter, outscoring Cras 28-13 for an unassailable 67-44 advantage.

Canto's team cruised over the final 10 minutes and still outscored Crash 20-15 for the 28-point triumph.

Valdemoro, who was slowed by injuries before Christmas, scored a season-high 20 points to lead the Valencia club.

Milton-Jones scored 16.

Ros still have a chance of coming in first place in Group A, although it's very unlikely.

At 7-2, they need to win their game next week at home to Galatasaray and have TTT Riga upset UMMC Ekaterinburg (8-1) in Russia.

Rebekkah Brunson and Godin each had 12 points for Cras.
