Elena Tornikidou has signed a one-year contract extension with Ros Casares in what has turned out to be a hugely important week for the Spanish giants.

The Uzbekistan-born Tornikidou, who will turn 43 on May 27, was on Wednesday named to the Liga Femenina's Ideal Quintet by the Players' Basketball Association.

Torknikidou averaged 8.9 points per game and 4.1 rebounds in the EuroLeague Women this season as Ros Casares advanced to the quarter-finals before losing in three games to Gambrinus Brno.

"To have convinced a player of the value of Elena Tornikidou to remain for a further year is a great achievement by this club," said general manager Carme Lluveras.

"She is a player that brings so many things to the game that she is essential."

Last week, Ros announced that former star Amaya Valdemoro, the EuroBasket 2007 MVP, was returning to the club on a two-year contract and on Wednesday, the club unveiled Isma Canto as the new coach.
