Blog: Same Old, Same Old For Aguilar

21.02.2008

It has been a long time since my last blog. My life has not changed too much and I think that's good because last year I was playing in finals and winning titles and this year, so far, it has been the same.

One of the best things to happen in my career was playing with the National Team last summer in Italy. Since the first day in the training camp everybody got along and we had so much fun on and off the court

Elisa Aguilar (Ros Casares)
Aguilar has had plenty of success at club level as well with Ros Casares.
and when the team has chemistry it's hard to explain but everything comes together.

We went to Italy with a lot of dreams and we realized many of them when we were playing the final of the EuroBasket against Russia. We prepared for the game very well but sometimes things don't go how you want and by the end of the first half we were 20 points down.

The only thing we knew at that moment was that we had not played like ourselves, because we were not fighting. So it was the only thing we talked about it in the locker room. Go back out there and fight and never give up, and the final score it was 74-68 and Russia won.  Of course we were upset but we gave everything we had on the court and Russia was a great team and they won, fairly.

After the game we had dinner together with our families, friends and also Jose Luis Saez the president of the Spanish Federation who was very happy and he really worked hard for women's basketball and takes care of us every second. Everybody in the room worked so hard with us that it was an unforgettable moment.

After the National Team we had four days off and we started with my club team Ciudad Ros Casares. We only had one week to prepare for the first title of the season, the Super Cup, which pits the winner of the regular season against the winner of the Queen's Cup. We won both titles so we played in the Queen's Cup against finalists Perfumerias Avenida de Salamanca. The game was in Valencia and we did not have too much time to prepare, plus we had a lot of new players in the team like Katie Douglas, Elena Baranova , Evina Maltsi and  Milka Bjelica.  Because everybody knows Margot Dydek is pregnant and Erika de Souza, by that time, was out with an ankle injury.  But we won the title and went on to win 24 straight games. We later lost in the Spanish League but we were very happy about our record.

This last weekend, we played in the Queen's Cup in Sevilla.  In the first game we faced Rivas de Madrid and we won easily because we played hard from the beginning. In the semi-final we face Ibiza and it was an okay game because Ibiza are the kind of team who like to run and never stop, but we beat them and made the final. There we played Leon who won in the semi-final over Salamanca which was a surprise. It was a tough game and we could not break it open in the last two minutes. So they had the last possession and a chance to tie the game but they missed and WE WON!!!!

A lot has happened since the end of last season but like I said before my life is still the same because I am still winning titles, and let me tell you it is the best feeling.
