Ros Casares capped an excellent week with a 79-70 overtime win in Spain over Mann Filter Zaragoza on Saturday.
Casares, narrow winners over USO Mondeville Basket in the EuroLeague Women in midweek, which raised their record to three victories and four defeats in the competition, placed five players in double figures against Zaragoza, with Spanish international Elisa Aquilar leading the way with 17 points.
Noemi Jordana gave the team its best outside threat, making four of eight from three-point range on her way to 16 points.
However, the most influential star was Brazilian international center Alessandra, the Player of the Week in the EuroLeague Women.
She had 15 points and 15 rebounds in 32 minutes on court for Ros Casares.
Casares are set to have a Brazilian one-two punch when Janeth links up with the team. Janeth will put pen to paper on a deal this week if she passes her medical, and that may put her in the line-up for next weekend's game against ninth placed USP CEU - Adecco Estudiantes.
Ros Casares will travel to the Czech Republic this week to face USK Praha in the EuroLeague Women.
Hondarribia-Irun are level with Ros Casares at the top of the standings on 20 points after a 64-52 win over Estudiantes. |
