Spain: High Expectations For New-Look Casares
// 03 February 2006

Ros Casares gave new meaning to the phrase 'ice cold' as they crashed to a 64-43 defeat at home to Dynamo Moscow.

The second success this week over the Valencia side means Dynamo, whose best finish in the EuroLeague Women was fourth in 2000, are headed to the quarter-finals.

Ros Casares exit the competition with only the Spanish title now to play for.

The hosts had a very poor night on offence and finished 16 of 71 from the field (22.5%), including three of 18 (16.7) from the arc.

After taking a 16-13 advantage with 1:06 remaining in the first quarter, Ros Casares froze as they failed to register a point for more than eight minutes.

Someone must have left the freezer door open for Dynamo too, because they were almost just as bad.

After Tammy Sutton-Brown's jump shot with 9:48 to play in the first half had put Dynamo in front at 17-16, they went more than six minutes without scoring before a pair of Diana Taurasi free throws gave them a 19-16 lead.

A Sue Bird lay-up with four seconds left in the second quarter gave Dynamo a 24-21 interval lead.

The visitors reeled off the first eight points of the second half - four from Taurasi and four from Tatiana Shchegoleva and cold-shooting Ros Casares, who lost the first leg 72-59 in Russia, were unable to get back into the game.
