Mariangela Cirone

Career: Bari (Italy-A1, 1990-93), Cesena (Italy-A1, 1993-97), Reggio Emilia (Italy-A1, 1997-98), Pavia (Italy-A1, 1998-99), Treviglio (Italy-A1, 1999-2001) Como (Italy-A1, 2001-06), Napoli (Italy-A1, 2006-07)

Cirone is the “brains” of the team and EuroBasket Women could represent the completion of what has been a tumultuous career in the “blue shirt”.  The 31-year-old's lack of size has not helped in her fight to obtain the recognition she deserves due to her intelligence and her surgical ability to lead her teammates. A good defender and three-point shooter, leadership is Cirone’s best feature. Coach Lambruschi puts the “keys of the Italian engine” in Cirone’s hands. She will be in the starting five of the team and will have the responsibility of maintaining the important balance between “inside and outside play”, which will be the secret of the Italian national team's success.
