|Icied the win from the foul line: Tofas guard Steven Burtt |
On a night of drama in the EuroChallenge, Tofas Bursa continued the exciting trend with a riveting 82-79 overtime success against a crestfallen KRKA Novo Mesto in Group A.
In a game which will be remembered by those who witnessed it for quite some time, both teams went for the jugular during the extra period and amassed a mind-boggling 37 points during the last five minutes in a bid to come out on top.
It were the Turkish hosts who prevailed - although they will be wondering why they allowed themselves to be put through such an ordeal having been soundly in control earlier in the game at 40-27.
Nevertheless, a 17-4 run by the Slovenians tied the scores up, and matters were still level at 59-59 with just under ninety seconds of regulation remaining.
Domen Lorbek looked to have landed the killer blow for KRKA Novo Mesto with a three-pointer with 38 seconds left, but Steven Burtt replied in kind to ensure both teams were locked again - and he even had the chance of winning the game with another triple attempt.
But, overtime was required and after a strong opening burst, Tofas managed to take the win, with Burtt going on to show his cool and ice the decisive free-throws.
He finished with 19 points and seven assists whilst Lorbek had 18 points and five assists for the losing team.
