Caner Topaloglu scored the game-winner with one second left as Pinar Karsiyaka beat Tofas SC Bursa 64-63 on the road in an all-Turkish showdown in Group A of the EuroChallenge.
Topaloglu and Jon Diebler both scored 12 points while Robert Dixon had 17 points and eight assists. Tofas, who watched as 17-year-old Kenan Sipahi missed a free-throw with eight seconds left, were led by Steven Burtt with 16 points while Chinemelu Elonu had 12 points and 14 rebounds.
Just days after Tofas beat Pinar 95-94 in the Turkish league, Tofas went on a 14-1 first quarter run to grab a 16-7 advantage. And the hosts' lead was 21-12 after one period.
A Tomislav Rozic triple pushed the lead to 12 points 33-21. Pinar trimmed the margin to five points but trailed 38-31 going into the break.
The hosts had the lead at 44-34 before two Elonu dunks started a 15-0 Pinar run, which also featured a four-point play by Diebler, as the guests were up 49-44. Tofas answered with the next five points but Dixon nailed a three and Pinar led 54-51 after three quarters.
Elonu and Burtt combined for 11 points in an 11-0 run for a 62-56 Tofas lead with three minutes to play. The hosts failed to convert on four straight possessions while Dixon nailed a long ball and Topaloglu's layup tied the game at 62-62 with 26 seconds left. The highly-touted prospect Sipahi made just one of two free throws with eight seconds left which left the door open for Topaloglu's winner with one tick left.
