Ros Casares clinched their third successive victory in the EuroLeague Women by winning 82-71 at Dynamo Moscow on Wednesday.

In a glamorous match-up, Manolo Real’s team trailed 56-52 late in the third quarter after a lay-up by Dynamo’s Latvian national team star Anete Jekabsone-Zogota, but the Spanish outfit landed the vital punches afterward en route to a triumph that has given them the inside track to Group D supremacy.

Defeat was cruel on Jekabsone-Zogota, who played all 40 minutes and scored a game-high 28 points on nine of 17 shooting from the field, including three of five (60%) from three-point range.

Ros’ game-winning surge came after a Kelly Schumacher jump shot had given the hosts a 60-57 advantage at the end of the third period.

Elena Baranova received a pass from Greece’s Evani Maltsi and buried a jumper, Elisa Aguilar added two free throws and Delisha Milton-Jones nailed a jump shot for a 63-60 Casares advantage.

Milton-Jones, who led the Valencia side Casares into the final of last year’s competition, then made two free throws and former Bourges star Maltsi struck from behind the arc to make it 68-60 and complete an 11-0 run.

Dynamo twice cut the deficit to three at 72-69 and 74-71, after which Spain national team point guard Aguilar connected from long range with 2:35 remaining for a six-point advantage.

That would prove to be the final dagger.

The hosts took a timeout, but when played resumed, Ieva Kublina was off target with a jumper and following a Milton turnover, Jekabsone-Zogota missed with an attempt from three-point range.

Elena Tornikidou hit a jumper, and former Russia national team star Baranova finished the scoring with a three-ball for a decisive victory.

Milton-Jones had 19 points to lead Ros, while Baranova scored 14 while pulling down 12 rebounds.

On this evidence, the Spanish team looks a good bet to make it back to the final four.
