Dynamo Moscow flirted with an embarrassing defeat but held on to beat Ibiza Sport Island 70-67. The 140-130 aggregate victory allowed the Russian side to advance to the EuroCup Women Quarter-Finals. If Dynamo had failed to progress, it would have been a major disappointment, especially considering the way they raced into a 27-14 lead by the end of the first quarter for a 20-point advantage over the two legs. Ibiza put their heads down and battled back, though, closing the gap to 36-34 by half-time. When Shannon Johnson nailed a three-pointer with 2:56 remaining in the third quarter, Ibiza led 51-45 and trailed by just one point on aggregate. They kept the pressure on the rest of the way but never pulled level in the Eighth-Final tie overall. With 2:37 remaining, Ibiza still led 65-62 after another Johnson three-ball. Dynamo outscored them 8-2 the rest of the way. Marina Kuzina finished with 13 points and nine rebounds for Dynamo, who also got 13 from Ekaterina Sytnyak. Anastasia Logunova and Katerina Keyru weighed in with 12 points apiece. For Ibiza, Johnson scored a game-high 20 points. In another game on Thursday, Dynamo Kursk thrashed Seat Györ for the second time in a row. The Russians had prevailed in the first encounter at home, 85-56, and they rolled to an 85-44 second-leg victory in Hungary. Jillian Robbins poured in 18 points and Anastasiya Bocharova contributed 15 points and seven boards. |
