BASKETBALL IN EUROPE
|Sylvia Fowles was a dominant force inside, with 25 points and 16 rebounds for Galatasaray Medical Park|
Fenerbahce have been the best team this season in the EuroLeague Women with 14 wins in as many games.
To be unbeaten in one competition guarantees nothing in another, though, which is what Sylvia Fowles and Galatasaray made painfully evident to Fenerbahce fans on Sunday.
Fowles, who isn't on Galatasaray's EuroLeague Women roster, dominated with 25 points and 16 rebounds to lead Gala to a 76-72 triumph over Fener in the Turkish Cup Final.
Fener had the upper hand with 2:38 remaining after their center, Ivana Matovic, had a three-point play.
But Diana Taurasi then struck twice for Gala to put them in front to stay.
The American made baskets on consecutive trips down the floor for a 73-72 lead.
Fener didn't score again while Fowles made three of her next six free-throws for the eight-point triumph.
Taurasi had 18 points and Epiphanny Prince 17 for Gala, who are hosting the EuroLeague Women Final Eight in Istanbul later this month.
Angel McCoughtry led Fener with 20 points while Matovic had 15 points and nine rebounds.
Isil Alben, the Turkey national team point guard and playmaker of Galatasaray, said: "We've fought the good fight.
"They played well but we won.
"We are very happy."
