Imperious Augustus Leads Galatasaray Past Chevakata

26 February 2009

Galatasaray started slow but finally asserted themselves and beat Chevakata 55-49 to progress to the EuroCup Women Semi-Finals.

Trailing by 14 points heading into the second leg, the Russian outfit scored the game's first five points but they weren't able to build on the advantage.

Instead, the Turkish club fought back to knot the game at 14-14 by the end of the opening quarter on a made jump shot by Seimone Augustus.

She then put Galatasaray into a 18-14 lead at the start of the second quarter with a lay-up and two free-throws.

Augustus and Sophia Young hit jumpers to close the first half and give the home side a 26-20 lead in a low-scoring game.

Cem Akdag's outfit went in front by as many as 11 late in the third quarter only for Tatiana Bokareva and Chevakata to claw their way back to 41-38 with 6:43 to go in the game.

Nakia Sanford's lay-up cut the deficit to 47-45 with 3:25 to go but Chevakata got no closer.

USA international Augustus finished with a game-high 18 points while Young contributed 13 with eight rebounds.

Bokareva poured in 14 points for Chevakata.
