Spain: De Pablos Replaces Martinez As Estu Head Coach

Estudiantes coach Mariano de Pablos has signed a one-year contract extension following a hugely successful few weeks in charge of the first team.

Estu had suffered 10 defeats in 11 ACB matches when De Pablos was handed the coaching reins in place of Pedro Martinez at the start of February.

That dismal run of form had seen Estu slump into the bottom four of the standings, but De Pablos' arrival has sparked a remarkable reversal of fortunes, with the Madrid-based club now ninth after winning six successive matches.

Estu have also reached the Final Four of the EuroCup, where they will meet Spanish rivals Akasvayu Girona in the semi-finals next month.

At just 31-years-old, the Madrid-born De Pablos is the youngest head coach in the ACB, having previously been on the backroom staff at Estudiantes.

De Pablos, whose new contract will see him remain in charge for next season, said: "I am tremendously satisfied. I thank the council of administration and the sporting council for the confidence they have given me since I took charge of the team and for this decision.

"My aim is to dedicate myself the best I can during this period with the team so that we are as competitive as possible."
