Serbia: Vojvodina Top OKK Beograd

Vojvodina Srbijagas, Serbia's only representative in this season's EuroCup, continued their fine start to the new season with a decisive win over OKK Beograd.

Ahead of their first game in Europe since 2003, scheduled for November 7 against Maroussi in Novi Sad, Vojvodina registered a 100-87 victory - their fourth triumph in a row in the preliminary phase of national championship.

Despite being without former youth international Ivan Ivanovic and injured guard Ivan Bosnjak, Velimir Gasic's side's only problems came in the third quarter when the side from capitol reduced a 17-point deficit to just four.

But the visitors, who were led by Nenad Sulovic's 20 points, suffered from a lack of depth compared to the unbeaten Vojvodina, who had six players with double-digit scores and again shone in final period.

Dusan Djordjevic top scored for hosts with 19 points and five assists, while Cedomir Vitkovac scored 16, and Marko Scekic finished the game with 14 points, seven rebounds and three blocks.

Gasic said: "Good defense in the first quarter allowed us plenty of counter-attacks and easy points. That's our true value, which almost disappeared in third period.

"I'm a bit worried because of how we played in the penultimate quarter, as we were too much focused on attack, which the visitors used to cut deficit due to our poor defence performance.

"Still, I'm glad some of our players who were sidelined at the start of season are now back into the squad. That fact, that we'll have many options when EuroCup starts, is very important now when we are ahead of our clash with Maroussi," he added.
