Dynamo Moscow kept the pressure on MiZo Pecs in the battle for second place in Group D of the EuroLeague Women by edging USO Basket Mondeville 75-71 on Wednesday.
Anete Jekabsone-Zogota, a strong Player of the Year candidate for FIBA Europe, led the way with 25 points and the outstanding Seimone Augustus had 22 for Dynamo, who held their nerve when trailing 66-63 with less than four minutes remaining.
A three-point play by Jekabsone-Zogota tied the game, and a three-ball by the Latvia sensation extended the lead to 69-66.
Augustus went in for a lay-up and followed that up with two free throws to cap the 10-0 run that USO Basket never recovered from.
Mondeville, who had trailed by as many as 11 points in the first half, did well to remain in the game and tied the contest at 45-45 with 2:48 to go in the third quarter.
They would then lead by as many as five points in the fourth quarter, but weren't able to hold off Jekabsone-Zogota and Dynamo, who won the rebounding battle 37-28.
USO Basket hurt their chances at the free throw line, making only eight of 17 (47%), and lost for the seventh time in nine games.
They still have a chance to pip TEO Vilnius to fourth and a place in the eighth-finals, yet they need the Lithuanian team to lose at home to Ros Casares on Thursday and next week at Dynamo.
USO Basket finish their group campaign with a very winnable contest against Germano Zama Faenza, who had just two wins going into Wednesday's game at MiZo Pecs.
