Coudray Delivers Post-Mortem On USVO Defeat

USVO Valenciennes coach Herve Coudray admitted his team could not keep Dexia Namur in check in their 75-57 defeat to the Belgians in EuroLeague Women Group C.

USVO, the two-time EuroLeague champions, drew level at 38-38 at the start of the third quarter but Dexia pulled away easily in the latter stages to record an impressive victory.

Coudray, who took over as USVO coach in the summer following Laurent Buffard's departure to Russian giants UMMC Ekaterinburg, was disappointed with the way his players failed to counter the attacking threat of the Belgian league-and-cup winners.

"Our objective was to hold off Namur, but we conceded more than 70 points," said the former USO Mondeville coach in French daily L'Equipe.

"We can't impose ourselves if this happens.

"We are lacking an aggressive desire on both sides of the court."

USVO will have to show a major improvement if they are going to attempt to repeat their title-winning exploits of 2002 and 2004.

They also made the final of this competition in 2001 and 2003.

The team from the north of France shot just 35% (22 of 63) from the field and 55% (10 of 18) from the charity stripe, and were out-rebounded 42-30.

Former Dexia player Nicole Ohlde stood out with 17 points and 13 rebounds for USVO.
