Player of the Week: Isabel Sanchez

EuroLeague Women title holders US Valenciennes recorded an important home win on Thursday night as they kept at bay an aggressive Sopron side who wanted the victory to top the group.

Valenciennes held on for the 86:80 victory after a tough slog and it was Spaniard Isabel Sanchez who was at the helm in offense for the locals. Sanchez exploded for 18 points, adding to her stats 2 assists, 2 steals and 2 blocks, but also her tough defence of the Hungarian guards made a big impact and wins her the EuroLeague Women MVP honours for this week.

USVO had to deal with an offensive barrage from Sopron's Lucie Blahuskova who poured in 31 points and pulled down 10 rebounds in the losing effort. Sanchez kept her cool though and made the important shots each time Sopron were a little too close.

Having moved from FC - UB Barcelona this season (she averaged 15.8 ppg and 3 apg for the Catalan club in the EuroLeague last year), Sanchez has had a slow start in this year's European competition. Last week however she hit 17 against Krakow and seems to have found her place on court with the French champions.

Currently averaging 13ppg in the French Ligue féminine, Sanchez is now looking comfortable in the USVO starting line-up.
