Cholet Celebrate Vital Road Win

29 January 2009

Cholet Basket didn't need reminding of how crucial their 71-68 triumph at Telekom Baskets Bonn was on Wednesday night.

In the EuroChallenge Top 16, away wins are priceless and this victory was especially sweet since Erman Kunter's team was able to fight back from an eight-point deficit at half-time.

Claude Marquis, the Cholet center who had 16 points and six rebounds, said: "Our success was a big step toward the Quarter-Finals because in European competition, it is important to win at least one game on the road."

The number that jumps off the stat sheet is the 18 in the rebound column by Randal Falker of Cholet.

Falker, a 23-year-old power forward from the United States, went into  the contest averaging 7.3 boards after Cholet's eight Regular Season games.

The second number that stands out is the 11 offensive rebounds that he pulled down.

The NBA's former rebounding great Dennis Rodman would even marvel at that.

Telekom Baskets Bonn coach Michael Koch said: "We played against a team which plays as athletic and physical basketball as our team ...

"At the moment, we have some problems in rebounding because some of our best rebounders are missing due to injury."

In Group I, Belgacom Liege and Cholet are both 1-0 while Telekom Baskets Bonn and EiffelTowers Den Bosch are 0-1.

"Now we have to play better in the next game on the road in Den Bosch," Bonn's Brandon Bowman said.
