Steed Tchicamboud's last minute call by Vincent Collet, in order to replace Antoine Diot (injured back), took everybody by surprise. A late bloomer, Tchicamboud played six times forthe national team during the nightmare Qualification to EuroBasket 2009, when France had to face a huge amount of absences. Steed started basketball in Chalon, but the club did not believe in him enough and he had to go through one season of life in the third tier of French basketball followed by three in Pro B before getting his chance in the elite division. But since then, this scoring point guard, who's strength is also defense, has had five good seasons and he seems to keep improving, even if he is now 30 years old. After Diot's injury, Collet needed another playmaker who can keep the defensive pressure high and can bring some scoring during short periods on the court. Last season, Steed was one of the main reasons Chalon won the French Cup and went to the Final Game of the Semaine des As. He averaged 8 points, 3.1 rebounds and 4 assists per game.
